JEMS PRADHAN- this name needs no introduction. No words would suffice to express exactly how great of a singer he is. His charming face, local accent and his list of amazing songs would follow his name. Born and brought up in the alleys of Kathmandu valley, Jems Pradhan knows the taste of locals; be it food or music. He was a normal boy with usual traits and behavior. His childhood describes him as a naughty, outspoken, rowdy lad who never happened to win his parents’ heart in terms of any educational achievements.

With his keen interest in playing different musical instruments and singing, he was dragged towards the music industry which ultimately became his destiny. He used to sing since his childhood during small school programs and functions. Despite his parents’ wish to see Jems as a Doctor or a Pilot or an Engineer, he bumped into a completely different chapter of his life. Unknown of his future destination, he kept working on his desired path leading to the music industry.

Jems Pradhan is a man with multiple hobbies including off-road traveling, photography and cooking. Talking of hobbies, Jems describes himself as a cycling enthusiast who loves to explore new places and narrow alleys of the city on his paddling ride. Well, this also brings forward Pradhan’s conscious way of living and his health conscious lifestyle.

Musical Journey

Keeping all the hobbies aside, Jems Pradhan excels in leading his way through his impeccable service, hard-work and consistent input in the field of music.Today he has established a benchmark of good music. Since 1996, Jems Pradhan has successfully stood out in the mass with his unique and catchy songs along with his carefree attitude which was a new trend to the music industry. His hit singles “Bhaigo Uni Jaaun”, “Bam Bhole”, “Aaideu Aaideu”, “Jamdaar Baa” and  “Chulbule Chulbule” are but to name few of his most popular songs that follow his name leading him to become the most popular and the most-loved artist among many. He has gifted Nepali music industry with many albums of pop collections such as “Bam Bhole”, “Hawaa”, “Chashme”, “Aawaz” and “Kram”.

In the present day, he stands out as a singer, composer, arranger, music producer, videographer and the list goes on and on. Basically, his list of professional accomplishments puts him in the list of multi-hyphenates hence defying the statement “ having a finger in every pie leads to nowhere .” He is a one-man army; a star of all generations.

Indelible Jingles

In his struggling days, it was not easy to keep up with the fast growing technologies and more than that music industry was not an easy platform to get oneself rooted to. But his unshakeable determination towards Nepali music industry gave listeners a star. He is a versatile singer. Apart from singles, Jems’ voice is very popular in voice overs in Radio and TV commercials. During the heyday of FM radio in the nineties, commercial voice overs were an integral part of popular programs aired to target youth. “K Timi Close-up Gardainau”, and “Chiso Bhanekai Coca-cola” were the most played ads back then which almost took the market. He has done as many jingle singing as songs and this only proves his love for singing.

 

Jems Pradhan was never confined to a single genre of music. He gave hits in many genres including folk, pop, modern and rock. He just needed a trigger to hit the stage. Talking about the motif, earlier in his life, the trigger that instigated the desire to sing is also interesting. The sources say, while he was a college student, he made a trip to Bhedetar, a place in Dharan with his friends and the mesmerizing landscape, the stunning scenic view of the hilly area, the fresh breeze hitting his face digged out a hidden talent of Jems Pradhan. That day and today as an established artist in the music industry- he has absolutely nailed it. He believes in hard work and also believes, without your input and consistency, nothing is possible. So he dedicatedly pushed himself into the music sector and published his first ever album “Bhedetar ko Chautarima”. 

Jems And His Probing Mind

Jems Pradhan has given his unbelievably amazing music to the movie industry. He has given background sound tracks to many movies and “Sano Sansar ” is one of them. Jems being the one who walks hand-in-hand with the changing technologies and the public demand, he plans to experiment his talent in making movies too in near future. His latest single “Ma Hiden Hai ” is an outcome of trying to do something different. He says his intention in this music video is to promote Nepal’s Heritage sites and shooting the whole video in selfie mode was a

 complete experiment for the selfie obsessed teenagers.

Achievements And Tours

Amidst our normal life, Nepal shook. Disastrous, 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal in 2015 and crumbled it into rubles. Nepalese were under mental trauma. It was not easy to rise again. Many helping hands were offered. Meanwhile, The Help Nepal Network (HeNN) was at the forefront of providing relief to survivors. They came up with the special music concert titled “ an evening for GORKHA” at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in the UK to help rebuild Barpak, Gorkha. Jems Pradhan along with few other great personalities got the opportunity to be a part of it. Pradhan feels lucky to have been part of that glorious event yet an opportunity to help his country in its need.

Our national artist has accomplished many international achievements as well. Jems Pradhan has done several song compositions and music direction in T.V. Serial produced by various INGOs. Further, he has performed music concert and worked as music coordinator in Everest Rocks Kathmandu Concert (Unplugged) 2007 for LHS Love Hope Strength USA, performed at Basantapur Durbar Square in between a swarm of big crowd with international artists like Cy Curnix & Jamie West Aram THE FIXX, Slim Jim Phantom STRAY CATS, Mike Peters The ALARM, Glenn Tilbrook SQUEEZE, Steve Lucase and Nick Harper. This event was a charity fund raising program for Cancer Hospital Bhaktapur on 29 August 2007. Moreover, traveling abroad to countries like Australia, London, Hong Kong and many more for concerts is a routine for him and this serves as the testament of his humongous popularity among the Nepalese diaspora.

Jems Pradhan, with his distinguished personality unfurling through acute determination, has cemented his name in Nepal’s music industry.
